The Profit Margin Trap

Some jobs make you feel productive while quietly making you poorer.

Most small business owners are addicted to being busy.

When the pipeline feels a little thin, they start taking “busy for busy” work.

They fly to Virginia for a job with zero margin just to feel like they’re working. They hardball a client on price but then give away their emotional energy for free to someone who’s going to be a nightmare to manage.

Busy is a trap.

Profit is the goal.

I’d rather see you talk to one person for an hour and make

0k in profit through a leadership program than fly across the country to net $4k on a two-day install that leaves you exhausted.

Your time has intrinsic value.

If you’re not protecting your margins, you’re not building a business, you’re just buying yourself a really stressful job.

Stop being desperate for “work” and start being desperate for “profit.”

There is a massive difference between the two.

Are you taking jobs right now just to feel “busy,” even though the math says you’re barely breaking even?
