The Brick Wall

You're not avoiding the task. You're avoiding the version of it you invented.

We all have it.

That one task on the list that feels like a ten-foot thick brick wall.

I was talking to a client who is a genius at rigging and lighting.

He can build a complex system in his sleep, but the second we talk about documenting his process or creating content, he hits a wall.

He hates the idea of being a “

phony

He hates the “

fluff

He stutters over scripts and ends up doing thirty takes of a video that should have taken two minutes.

Here’s the truth: The wall isn’t the task.

The wall is your expectation of what the task should look like.

If you think you need a high-production studio and a perfect script to be valuable, you’re going to stay stuck behind that wall forever.

But if you realize that people don’t want “content”, they want solutions, everything changes.

Stop trying to “create.”

Just start documenting.

If you’re fixing a rigging system, turn the camera on.

Don’t script it.

Just show how to fix the problem.

The guy looking for a solution doesn’t care if you stutter; he cares if his light stays up.

What’s the “brick wall” on your list right now that would disappear if you just lowered your production value and focused on the solution?
