You’re Not Burned Out, You’re Measuring Wrong
One drains you… the other comes from what you’re focusing on
People throw the word burnout around a lot.
Sometimes it’s real.
Other times… it’s something quieter.
I was talking to someone who felt like they were slipping.
Not showing up the way they should.
Not consistent enough.
Not where they wanted to be.
That was the story.
So we slowed it down for a second.
Not emotionally… just factually.
“What did you actually do this week?”
And when we laid it out, it didn’t match the story at all.
They had done more than they used to.
More reps.
More follow-through.
More awareness.
But they weren’t looking at that.
They were locked in on what didn’t happen.
The days they skipped.
The habits they didn’t hit.
The version of themselves they think they should already be.
And that gap was draining them.
I’ve done the same thing.
You put together a solid stretch…
and your brain immediately goes, “yeah, but…”
And now something that should build momentum just kind of flattens out.
You can be moving forward and still feel like you’re behind.
That’s not always a work problem.
Sometimes it’s just where your attention is sitting.
This isn’t about lowering standards.
It’s about not lying to yourself in the process.
If you’re doing more than you were… that counts.
If you’re catching patterns you used to miss… that counts.
If you’re even in the fight in a more honest way… that counts.
Most people don’t quit because they’re incapable.
They quit because nothing feels like it’s working… even when it is.
Before you label yourself burned out…
take a real look at what’s actually happening.
Not the idea of where you should be.
What’s actually there.
Are you behind…
or are you just refusing to see what you’ve already started building?
