When It’s Not About Work Anymore
You can still show up… and still not be fully there
I’ve seen this happen more than people realize.
Someone thinks they’re in a “slow month.”
Numbers are off.
Energy feels weird.
Motivation isn’t there the same way.
So they start trying to fix their work.
More calls.
More focus.
More pressure.
But if you sit with it long enough…
you realize it’s not really about work.
I was talking to someone who thought they were slipping.
Leads felt off.
Pipeline felt dry.
They said the word “burnt out,” but even they didn’t fully believe it.
And when we actually slowed it down…
it wasn’t the job.
There was something else sitting underneath all of it.
Something they’d been carrying for weeks.
Not talking about it much.
Just… dealing with it quietly.
And it was taking up space.
A lot of space.
That’s the part people miss.
You can still show up. You can still do the job. You can still look “fine” on the outside.
But internally, half your energy is somewhere else.
And then you start questioning your work.
You think you lost it. You think you’re off. You think something’s wrong with your ability.
But it’s not your ability.
It’s your bandwidth.
If you’ve got something heavy running in the background…
family, stress, something unresolved…
you’re not operating with the same capacity.
You’re just not.
And the mistake is trying to push through it like nothing’s there.
Acting like it shouldn’t affect you.
Trying to “stay locked in” while part of you is somewhere else.
That doesn’t make you disciplined.
It just makes you disconnected.
The truth is…
sometimes your numbers dip not because you forgot how to perform…
but because you’re carrying something you haven’t actually faced yet.
And until you deal with that…
everything else is going to feel a little off.
Even if you can’t explain why.
So before you start tearing apart your strategy…
or questioning your work ethic…
take a second and look at what’s actually sitting underneath your focus.
What are you carrying right now…
that you’re pretending isn’t affecting you?
