Square Pegs and Necessary Outsiders

Some people feel out of place their entire lives.

They don’t quite fit the culture.
They don’t mirror the dominant tone.
They share values, but not instincts.

They’re often told directly or indirectly that something is wrong with them.

I don’t believe that.

I think every meaningful system needs outsiders.
Not rebels for rebellion’s sake but people who see differently.

The square peg isn’t broken.
It’s just not designed for the current hole.

History doesn’t move forward because everyone agrees.
It moves forward because someone
doesn’t.

And that difference comes at a cost.

Outsiders are misunderstood before they’re appreciated.
Often isolated before they’re validated.

Questions worth considering:

Where do you feel out of place?

Have you labeled that feeling as a flaw instead of a signal?

What would change if you stopped trying to fit and started trying to contribute?

Belonging feels good.
But contribution is what gives meaning.

And they’re not always the same thing.
