Strengths Have Shadows

Anthony Spark

We love the idea of “turning weaknesses into strengths.”

It sounds empowering.
It sounds clean.
It’s mostly untrue.

You don’t turn weaknesses into strengths.
You
accept them, manage them, and build around them.

Every strength casts a shadow.

Intensity builds things and strains relationships.
Relentlessness creates momentum and burnout.
Empathy connects and exhausts

.

The problem isn’t your weaknesses.
The problem is pretending they aren’t attached to your best qualities.

For a long time, I thought growth meant fixing myself.

What I eventually learned was that growth meant accepting the full package.

Not indulging it.
Not glorifying it.
But being honest about it.

You don’t need to be well-rounded.
You need to be
self-aware and well-staffed.

Trying to amputate parts of yourself doesn’t make you healthier.
It just makes you fragmented.

Questions to reflect on:

Which traits get you into the most trouble?

What strengths are inseparable from those traits?

Are you trying to fix yourself or understand yourself?

Peace doesn’t come from perfection.
It comes from integration.
