Strengths Have Shadows

We love the idea of âturning weaknesses into strengths.â
It sounds empowering.
It sounds clean.
Itâs mostly untrue.
You donât turn weaknesses into strengths.
You accept them, manage them, and build around them.
Every strength casts a shadow.
Intensity builds things and strains relationships.
Relentlessness creates momentum and burnout.
Empathy connects and exhausts
.
The problem isnât your weaknesses.
The problem is pretending they arenât attached to your best qualities.
For a long time, I thought growth meant fixing myself.
What I eventually learned was that growth meant accepting the full package.
Not indulging it.
Not glorifying it.
But being honest about it.
You donât need to be well-rounded.
You need to be self-aware and well-staffed.
Trying to amputate parts of yourself doesnât make you healthier.
It just makes you fragmented.
Questions to reflect on:
Which traits get you into the most trouble?
What strengths are inseparable from those traits?
Are you trying to fix yourself or understand yourself?
Peace doesnât come from perfection.
It comes from integration.
