Stop Waiting Until You're Ready. You're Already Late

The business gets built in the messy middle, not after everything is figured out.

There's a version of starting a business that lives in your head.

Everything is set up.

The website is done.

The pricing is perfect.

The tools are figured out.

The right clients are coming in on the right jobs at the right price.

And you're waiting for that version.

While the real version, the messy, figuring-it-out, doing-estimates-in-parking-lots version, is sitting right in front of you.

That's the one that actually builds the business.

Here's what year one actually is.

A numbers game.

Not a quality game.

Not a perfect-client game.

Not a wait-until-everything-is-ready game.

A numbers game.

Every estimate you give makes the next one easier. Every job you take teaches you something the last one didn't. Every cheap client shows you exactly what you don't want.

And exactly how to price so you never have to deal with them again.

You don't learn that by thinking about it.

You learn it by doing it.

Over and over until it stops feeling hard.

The mistake most people make in year one is trying to skip the mess.

They want the revenue without the awkward estimates.

The good clients without the bad ones.

The confidence without the reps.

Doesn't work that way.

You have to make a mess first.

Do the jobs that don't pay what you want.

Knock on doors that don't answer.

Leave cards that fall off door frames.

Send quotes into silence and sit there wondering if you priced it wrong.

That's not failure.

That's the work.

Every single one of those moments is building something you can't buy and can't fake.

Your instincts.

Your pitch.

Your ability to read a client before they even tell you the price they're hoping for.

Your gut sense for when a job is worth it and when to walk.

Nobody hands you that.

You earn it one awkward estimate at a time.

So here's what you do.

Get busy.

Not organized-busy.

Not planned-busy.

Not "I'll-start-when-the-website-is-done busy."

Just busy.

Do the quotes.

Post the signs.

Hand out the cards.

Drop the door hangers on the driveways that need work.

Show up to every lead you can find and let the reps do what reps do.

Because the business doesn't get better in your head.

It gets better in the driveway.

The version of this that works isn't the one where everything is perfect before you start.

It's the one where you showed up before everything was ready.

And built it as you went.
