The Lie of “Getting Ready”

Anthony Spark

12/17/2025

Most people aren’t stuck because they’re afraid.
They’re stuck because they’re waiting for permission that never comes.

They tell themselves they’re “getting ready.”
Learning. Healing. Thinking. Planning.

But readiness is not a state you arrive at.
It’s a decision you make under imperfect conditions.

Here’s the uncomfortable part:
If you’re still preparing, it’s usually because action would force you to admit something about yourself.

Action reveals priorities.
Action collapses stories.
Action removes ambiguity.

And ambiguity is comfortable.

You don’t delay because you don’t know enough.
You delay because knowing would require choosing.

At some point, “getting ready” stops being wisdom and becomes a socially acceptable form of avoidance.

The question isn’t what else you need to learn.
It’s what you’re protecting by not acting.
