Why Artists Burn Out in Businesses They Built

Anthony Spark

1/11/2026

Some people are builders.
Some are managers.
Some are entrepreneurs.

And some quietly are artists.

Artists care about quality.

Details.

The way things
feel when they’re done right.

The problem is, businesses don’t run on perfection.
They run on throughput.

When artists are forced to live in admin, invoicing, follow-ups, and logistics, something subtle happens:

The business becomes a prison.

Not because it’s failing
but because it’s succeeding in a way that drains you.

Here’s the rule I wish more people followed:

If less than 60–75% of your time is spent doing work you enjoy or value,
the cost will show up somewhere else health, relationships, or resentment.

Your job isn’t to do everything.
It’s to protect the part of you that does what only
you can do.

Growth isn’t about more work.
It’s about better placement.
